DANTE's sister organisation is TERENA, the Trans-European Research and Education Networking Association. The Secretariat of this association of European NRENs is based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. DANTE and TERENA are separate but complementary entities, collaborating to benefit NRENs and their users across Europe.
TERENA offers NRENs a forum in which to collaborate and foster the development of Internet technology, infrastructure and services to be used by the research and education community. The association undertakes technical and knowledge-sharing activities with this aim, including the coordination of a number of Task Forces in specific technology and other interest areas, the development and coordination of shared services, and the collection and publication of information about NRENs in an annual Compendium.
TERENA also organises workshops, training and other community events. The annual TERENA Networking Conference (TNC) is attended by around 600 participants, including decision makers, networking specialists and managers from all major European networking and research organisations, universities, worldwide sister institutions and industry representatives.
TERENA is a partner in the GÉANT project, for which it handles a number of the outreach and technical activities, arranges events and supports the coordination of the research and development effort amongst project partners.
